City of Perth Knowledge Exchange

by

On behalf of the City of Perth, it is a pleasure to be involved in Startup Weekend Perth as a premiere sponsor. The City is highly supportive of events such as Startup Weekend because it recognises that a sustainable city needs to include activities that encourage entrepreneurship, innovation and knowledge exchange.

It is particularly pleasing to see the event take place at Spacecubed. Startup Weekend is exactly the kind of project that the City envisioned when we came on board as a major supporter of the Spacecubed project. Congratulations to Brodie McCulloch, Tom Tolchard and the SiiWA team for their great work so far.

It is important to recognise the economic, social and cultural contributions that projects like Spacecubed and Startup Weekend make to a city, and acknowledge them as essential elements of an advanced and thriving regional economy. Entrepreneurs, innovators and creative industry professionals are vital in determining the image of a city and a region, retaining talent to that region and providing positive, substantial benefits to other industry sectors.

Many Economic Development projects around the world aim to facilitate the creation of ‘knowledge precincts’ within a city – such precincts have become the seedbed for technological advancements, facilitating knowledge exchange and stimulating the development of innovative processes and products. Through the incubation role that they play, these precincts act as a catalyst for sustainable regional development.

Wouldn’t it be great to see something like that grow from all this?
